Simulations 7

Page 92 to 102 talks about the second and third order of simulation. The difference between first and second order is that second order is reproductions made from automation. It started along with the industrial revolution. In second order, their authenticity, their origin etc are no longer cares concerned, since they are (re)produced identically “all at once on a gigantic scale” (96). At this time, human labors are at some level freed and productivity starts to grow rapidly. The production process replaces “living labor” with “dead work”.

However, the second phrase of simulation is not enough to make a perfect simulacra world. What is after is the third order. The reproducibility of the third order yields over the second order due to the invention of model. Baudrillard explains it as “the entire order of production is in the process of tumbling into operational simulation” (101). The nature law of value is vanished, and so is the commercial law. The third order is based on the structural law of value. The ability for reproduction is fast-forwarding and a simulacra world is approaching.
