The Orders of Simulacra
Jean Baudrillard identified three orders of simulacra since Renaissance: counterfeit, production, simulation. In the first chapter, he wrote about the counterfeit(first) phase.
The first order is “based on the natural law of value”. The manipulations are mainly the reproductions of the originals, while they coexist at the same time. During the feudal order time, each sign clearly refers to one status. There does not exist free production among the different classes. During the Renaissance, production started to indicate the demand of the mass, and the counterfeit naturally grows along with the real. After that, people still wanted a counterfeit of an ideal world, and the only way is to regather the scatter world by military power. They invade other places and taker over their culture, religion, language, art and political system etc with their own. It is sad that this happened in nearly all around the world. The scariest thing among all these, is the education. Education blinds the children’s vision from the real at beginning and children are forced to believe and live in simulacra. Education makes people the Truman from The Truman Show.
At this point the counterfeit is only at the surface, but it will soon involves into a more perfect simulacra.
