Environments are invisible…The poets, the artist, the sleuth–whoever sharpens our perception tends to be antisocial; rarely “well-adjusted,” he cannot go along with currents and trends.
The medium is the massage McLuhan
If you look at my old photographs, I had very limited experience with shooting people in public. But, street photography and photos with people at humanity background are always intriguing to me. Inspired by how McLuhan talked about “environment” and “antisocial”, I wanted to change to new topic and shoot people on street who are at the edge of society or things that can represent the other side.
However, after I first shot a bunch of photos on street, I felt that my photos was not powerful enough to show themselves and on point, so I changed the theme to, Appletones at night.
There could be people walking on street or not. There could be people eating at a restaurant or not. But I was clearly seeking people, maybe is just because I’m so used to Appleton being rarely occupied. It was fun for me to document the place with a bit of people and to place people in contexts.
Since I started to grow my interest on BW photos, I decided to shoot all photos in BW. I think the BW gives the photos a special and charm vibe unlike color photo and I’m really happy with my results.
